Fuel for Thought

Students will analyze a given situation about replacing one of two family vehicles in order to determine which replacement choice will save the most fuel. The original problem was based on the article “The Illusion of Miles per Gallon” and the starter activity is available at NCTM; I have adapted and expanded it for purposes of this assessment to include environmental and economic impacts as well, such as green house gas emissions (evaluate grams/mile.)
